FUNHOUSE movement theater returns to Yume Gardens to take the audience on a butoh exploration of body as landscape. In eternal vessels of clay, we wander and wonder, at once in and of the landscape. We are earth and stars and the space between unseen realms. We are clouds and mountains; rivers and forests; presence and prayer. We are the dreams within the clay.
Join us for Lost Among Clouds, an exploration of form, movement, and spirit, featuring Christopher Carlone, Heide Foley, Karenne Koo, Lin Lucas, Sherry Mulholland, Keita Tsutsum with music by Paul Amiel.
Visitors to this unique butoh performance will encounter dancers dispersed throughout the refined splendor of the garden, each engaged in improvisational communion with the sights, sounds, and sensations of the natural environment. Prepare to be moved.
The experience is immersive, allowing for audience members to move throughout the garden as the dancers perform in different spaces.
A contemporary, avant-garde performance art, butoh is a seamless blend of dance, theater, improvisation, and traditional Japanese performing arts. Butoh compels both performers and audience to investigate the primal, universal energies that connect us, and invites us to share an embodied experience of the collective unconscious.
